Plant of the week: Narcissus Paperwhites

Writer's picture: Tom mouleTom moule

Paperwhites are colourful and fragrant bulbous perennials which are often grown indoors.

As the name implies, small white flowers are produced on top of lush green stalks, just like Daffodils as the two are related. When planted in Autumn and kept indoors, Paperwhites flower during late December, which makes them ideal for a Christmas decoration.

It’s best to plant Paperwhite bulbs in a shallow bowl or pot at twice the depth of itself and water occasionally. Once planted it should take around 7 weeks to flower.

Growing to around 35cm tall and preferring sunny conditions makes the Paperwhite ideal for windowsills and other light areas around the home.
